Injury Statistics: Home SafetyFor a printable version of this fact sheet, click here. Researchers at UNC IPRC recently completed a study of the epidemiology of unintentional home injuries in the United States. The "State of Home Safety in America‚ Facts About Unintentional Injuries in the Home" a study commissioned by the Home Safety Council, found that between 1992 and 1999, on average, there were approximately 18,000 deaths per year -- representing 6.83 deaths for every 100,000 people. Leading causes of home injury death between 1992 and 1999 were falls and poisoning.
