Occupational Injuries
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, a total of 4.4 million nonfatal injuries and illnesses were reported in private industry workplaces during 2003, resulting in a rate of 5.0 cases per 100 equivalent full-time workers. A total of 5,559 fatal work injuries were recorded in the U.S. in 2003 - a rate of 4.0 fatalities per 100,000 workers.
