Injury is the leading cause of death for children in North Carolina. Each year more than 200 children under the age of 15 die, about 3000 are admitted to hospitals, and more than 45,000 receive other medical care as a result of injuries. In a typical year one out of every 34 children in North Carolina experiences an injury that results in death or medical care.

This website, based on a new SAFE KIDS report, Injuries to North Carolina Children and the Role of SAFE KIDS was developed to give a brief overview of the information in the 2005 report and to improve accessibility to parts of the report. Site users may download the report as a whole by using the buttons to the right. The report contains tables and graphs that can be used in presentations to policy makers, grantors, or in other ways that would advance the work of reducing injuries in children.

Via pages connected to the Data page, users may download PowerPoint slides of key figures and graphs.

We welcome use of any of the information on this site for any of the purposes mentioned above, but please give credit to NC SAFE KIDS and the UNC Injury Prevention Research Center.
